Unit 4: Caring
Summary: We Are Stronger Together
Key points
- Every job is important: the builder, the farmer, the carpenter, the baker and the teacher all help people.
- When people work together, they can do great things: together, we are stronger.
- We can make a job name from a verb: verb + -er = noun.
- Some job names do not follow this rule: carpenter, doctor, nurse, vet.
- The ending -er sounds /ə/: farmer, teacher.
Rules to remember
verb + -er
build ➡️ builder, farm ➡️ farmer, teach ➡️ teacher, play ➡️ player.
verb ending in -e
Add only -r: bake ➡️ baker, drive ➡️ driver, write ➡️ writer.
